Acid attacks in India

While there are no official statistics of such attacks in India, it is estimated that there are 1,000 acid attacks a year in the country. Despite the gravity of the situation, the Centre doesn’t seem to be very bothered about tackling this ghastly crime.
Severe punishments like these have been discourage by international bodies, women council and researchers.
Punishments will only be handed over after the courts have held the accused guilty. Normally the court takes 5-7 years to deliver justice. With sever punishments it can go upto 12-15 years (as the accused can appeal to higher courts)
Also the judge himself puts the case on the back burner whenever severe punishment is requested by the prosecution and they are somewhat hesitant to hand such punishments. Of course we cannot (and should not) question the judges (after all the courts are Honorable). Also with the fast track courts we can see significant delays (not because of anything but genuine administrative and legal processes within the constitution)
I agree when there should be fear but unfortunately

Fear ≠Democracy
Fear = Communism / Monarch

  1. Nitesh, these are areas like womens' safety, or the mid-day meal incident, where there is no vote bank that's affected, or no direct impact or threat to politicians, and hence the lack of action by political parties. You can see how the congress ready to jump at any BJP comment, but when it comes to issues on safety, there is absolutely no action or comment. kasab was hanged 4 days before the 4th anniversary of the attacks, so he was merely hanged to prevent another uproar. If they wanted him executed, it could have been done 50+crores earlier. Politicians just dont give a fuck.

  3. Dont get me wrong bro. I'm not justifying politicians. Just trying to give their unbecoming point of view. I know India should become safe for women & children. Any large initiatives from the masses might be taken as an uprising of sorts, which isn't usually peaceful (as was seen during the Delhi protests last December). The only solution I see is quick and gruesome judgement against existing people found guilty of crimes against women or children. And make the punishment public, screen it on tvs, play it repeatedly on radios, make it known that anyone who dares shall meet the same fate. Let it rattle the souls of culprits.

  4. Buddy your thoughts are echoed in my blog. Punishment public, Screen it on tvs will be not be possible with the involvement of human rights and NGO. Politicians have sucked everything form this country and led to rotten vegetative state. As per latest report China is investing huge amount of money in Andhra Pradesh .This will led to more corruption and direct infiltration from neighboring county. Also as per your previous comments there’s is no vote bank involved in women safety. There should be sonic sound ( agitations )as the government is deaf to rattle the criminals.
